HEBREWS STUDY Part 5

Chapter 5

I just have two points to go over from this chapter.

Hebrews 5:7 "While Jesus was here on earth, he offered prayers and pleadings, with a loud cry and tears, to the one who could rescue him from death.  And God heard his prayers because of his deep reverence for God."

- This passage refers to Jesus, talking to God before the crucifixion.
- What we learn from here is that God hears our prayers.
- It mentions the idea of a "deep reverence" for God.
- Reverence:  Respectful, deep respect, humble, submissive.

MEMORY IDEA

Hebrews 5:8 "Even though Jesus was God's Son, he learned obedience from the things he suffered."

- This talks about the importance of being obedient.
- Obedience is hard sometimes.  But because Jesus was always obedient, He can help us to grow in our obedience.
- The idea of obedience reminds me of a popular hymn, "Trust And Obey."
"Trust and obey
 For there's no other way
   To be happy in Jesus
 Than to trust and obey"

PRAYER
Jesus, thank You for teaching us about the importance of prayer.  It's assuring to know that especially when we pray with deep reverence to God, He hears us, and answers our prayers.  Please help us to follow your example of obedience.  In the Bible, we're told that we are to obey our parents.  Please help us to be obedient and respectful to our parents.  Not only them, but also our authorities whom You have placed in those positions.  When obedience seems really hard, please help us through those times.
Thank You again for all that You teach us in this study of Hebrews.
In Your Name,
Let it be so
